LifePortal

http://www.lifeportal.com

The forward-thinking folks at LifePortal, Inc. had an idea: what if there was a website that could help people between the ages of 16 and 25 transition into adulthood?  Young adults in that age range, especially those coming from the foster care system, don't have much experience with finding jobs, finding places to live, or paying taxes, for example, so such a website would have to provide tools, answers, and support for people in this transitional phase of their lives.

LifePortal, Inc. came to us with some core goals and features, and we worked together to expand those ideas into a more organic whole that is alive today, with sections for Resources (places to eat, places to eat, job boards, etc.), How-To Articles, Community Forums, and Video uploads -- all accessible to everyone.  Beyond articles and resources, members have their own free-form blog space, profile, and message center to share and explore.

We're happy to report that the site is a success, boasting quite a few users, including several youth centers and social institutions.  There are some great upgrades in the works, too, including instant housing notifications (useful when you need a place to stay tonight) and online classes.

Pixels & Pulp

http://www.pixelsandpulp.com

In their own words, Pixels & Pulp is a design firm specializing in branding, print collateral and web design.  In our words, the Pixels & Pulp team is awesome!  They're extremely talented and they share our core values:  a commitment to sustainability and minute attention to detail.

The core of pixelsandpulp.com is the team's extensive client list and portfolio.  It was important to allow web users to see their work as easily as possible, so we built the portfolio items to display in their own categories ("web design", for example), to link to specific client names in the Client list, and to easily reference other items for the same client or project.  The result is a portfolio that creates curiosity (just try to look at the project icons on the right and not click on one!), has lots of interplay between related work, and gives a good overall sense of Pixels & Pulp's strengths.

Adding further functionality to the fabulous graphic design, the team can manage the entire site themselves.  And when it's time to expand functionality, the systems are in place to easily do so (on the down low:  a blog addition is already in the works!).

Baldwin Brothers

http://www.baldwinbrothersinc.com

Baldwin Brothers is an independent financial advisory firm that focuses on building and preserving wealth for clients.  That's great, but what really excited us at webmeadow HQ is that they build and preserve said wealth by being pioneers of socially responsible investing.  Even better (viscerally), their office space is a model of green building, built with passive solar and cooling principles and filled with recycled carpeting and furniture, bamboo cabinetry, motion-sensored lights, and lots more.

As part of a full-scale rebranding by Pixels & Pulp, Baldwin Brothers needed a website that expanded upon their principles and investment vehicles.  They wanted the site to be elegant, straight-forward, and easy to navigate, and they wanted to be able to update the site with new information over time.  We think the site worked out well, and more importantly, so did they.

Climate Week NY°C

http://www.climateweeknyc.org

Hosted by the The Climate Group, the United Nations, the City of New York, as well as other ecologically-oriented organizations, Climate Week NY°C gathers hundreds of govermental and business leaders, as well as thousands of citizens, from all over the world to open dialogue and gather support for a global resolution at the UN's Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

To make this year's events run smoothly, The Climate Group needed a way to share the various event details, event locations, sponsors, and updates with the world at a moment's notice.  Teaming up with Pixels & Pulp, webmeadow delivered a site that was flexible enough that the Climate Group could add, edit, and remove content quickly, and structured enough that new content fit seemlessly without need for further professional design.

A couple of our favorite features:

  • Automatic event integration with Google Maps, creating an up-to-the-minute, all-encompassing event map, complete with address information and links to full pages about each event.
  • Automagic sizing and placement of new sponsor logos at the bottom of every page when a sponsor is added to the general list.

Update:  We're happy to report that the Climate Week NY°C went off without a hitch, and I believe we can say our mission was accomplished!

TAY-SF

http://www.taysf.org/

Over on the other side of the country, the Transitional Age Youth Initiative was formed in San Francisco in order to improve outcomes for Transitional Age Youth (TAY) in the Bay Area. TAY are at-risk young people, often in the process of transitioning out of foster care, and TAY-SF's mission is to create interagency partnerships and programs aimed at systemic improvements for TAY.

Inspired by the amazing photography of Shane Powers, Rock + Feather created a great design for the site that appeals to both parts of TAY-SF's audience: transitional age youth and the organizations and agencies that serve them.

We built the site so that the folks at TAY-SF can easily update all of the content, including listings of all their partner agencies (with logos!). There's also an Event calendar and biographies of the staff and Young Adult Team. The Young Adult Team biographies also include audio files of each person telling his or her own story.

The Green Alliance

http://www.greenalliance.biz/

Founded in Kittery, Maine by Sarah Brown, the Green Alliance is a collaboration of Seacoast businesses aimed at becoming sustainable. The businesses offer discounts to "Green Card" holders -- regular people who want to patronize local green businesses. Save Green by going green! (Horrible pun but someone had to make it. The things I do for you.)

Every GA business has a profile page on the site, detailing their green creds and information about the business and the discount they offer. There are lots of news articles written about GA members, so we were able to create a way to automatically link the articles to their respective businesses without the need for lots of double-entries on the part of the staff. This site has some super-cool features designed by our pals (and Green Alliance members!) Pixels & Pulp -- check out the cool logos in the footer, and the great polaroids (the site automatically creates a custom image for each business!) sprinkled throughout the site.

The Spirit Garden

http://www.thespiritgarden.com/

The Spirit Garden is a holistic health business dedicated to helping people achieve health and vitality through nutrition, self-discover, and reflection.  Ellen Lalicata, Owner and CEO, wanted a website that was just as holistic as her business, covering not only consultation services, courses, and events, but also inspiration media, recipes, and tips.  In short, they wanted ways to build both the business and the community.

Tag-teaming with design superstars Pixels & Pulp, we delivered a site that The Spirit Garden can use as a resource for all facets of their operation:  ways for clients to signup and pay for courses, consultation services, and events; sections for recipes and holistic resources; a blog for free-form inspiration; and ways to show off the latest information on the Home page.  As with all webmeadow websites, Ellen and her team also have the ability to update anything on the website whenever inspiration strikes.

Miller's Cafe and Bakery

http://www.millerscafeandbakery.com/

Like most people, your next vacation plans probably include Littleton, NH.  And while you're here, you will probably find yourself hungry in the middle of the day, and wishing, "Wouldn't it be great if I could have some amazing food and sit right by the river?"  Well my friend, you are in luck!  Head over to Miller's Cafe and Bakery!

We've known David for a while, and when he wanted a website, he called us. (He also calls us when his computers go on the fritz in the middle of the busiest week of the year. We keep telling him not to defrost scones right on the motherboard, but does he listen?) David knew just how the cafe could benefit from a website -- he wanted tourists to be able to find the Cafe's location and hours before they came to Littleton, and he wanted locals to be able to keep up with the ever-changing menu options*.

David gave us a stellar review over on the Services page, and building the site was a great experience. We have heard a number of stories of people who were excited to find the site after a vague Google search hoping for that yummy "riverside cafe in Littleton". The cafe also offers free WiFi access (a rarity up here in the North Country)! Check out the site, then visit the cafe!

* The big thing at Miller's right now is the Flip Bread sandwich. Imagine a fresh pita bread (and I mean fresh! Cooked from dough-to-bread right in front of your eyes!) filled with delicious warm flavor combos -- my favorite is the Athena, filled with lamb and roasted potatos and curry-mint yogurt. Taste-tastic!

Stokefire

http://www.stokefire.com/

Stokefire is a naming and branding firm. Not sure what to call your company, product, or child? (OK, just kidding on the child.) Already have a name but need a tagline? Desperate to have your company re-named by a dude with no hair?  Stokefire can help.

In fact, Stokefire created the name webmeadow! And then they helped us focus our philosophies around the brand. The experience was challenging and fun, and we're quite proud of the end product.

They seem to have enjoyed our wit and charm, because then they turned around and asked us to create a new website that reflected their recent growth and their fun attitude, and they wanted it to be 120% editable by anyone on the staff.

While we pointed out the impossibility of 120%, we did end up creating a site that felt fresh, reflected their attitude, and gave them lots of room to grow. Now, not only can Stokefire edit pages, they can create new ones on the fly! (In fact, Tate got so excited that he created two new pages just one day after launch.)

So go to stokefire.com and look around! (My favorite part is the image that links to "Our Founding Principles". It's small, but you can make out a two-part plan: "Find Clients. Make $$.")

Napa County Bar

http://www.napacountybar.org/

It's always interesting to build a website that has a few disparate goals.  In the case of the Napa County Bar Association, the site had three very different audiences:  lawyers, people who need lawyers, and people who are very upset with their lawyers.

The Bar Association exists to provide the attorneys in Napa County with a network of colleagues, as well as continuing legal education and resources for research and advice. The Bar also acts as a referral service for its member lawyers -- if you need an attorney who is well-versed in California's Wine Laws (and, really, who doesn't?), the Bar Association can direct you to attorneys who specialize in that area. Lastly, part of the Bar's mandate is to provide fee arbitration services on behalf of its members -- so if you and your lawyer are having a dispute over fees, the Bar Association provides an alternative going to Small Claims, District, or Superior court.

The Bar Association's website needed to serve all of those needs in the same space. Their new website displays all of the information they needed, in a layout that's simple and easy use. Additionally, the back-end interface allows the Bar officers to update member information easily. Adding a new member, or editing an existing member record (to reflect a change in address or practice specialty) is as easy as filling out a web form. The site updates automatically, and you can search for a lawyer by City, Specialty, Firm name, and more! There is also a Bar Calendar, which is updated regularly to display meetings and other events.

The Bar Association provided us with some great pictures of the historic Napa County Courthouse. The Courthouse has classic architecture, as well as an amazing stained glass dome and artwork from local painters. My personal favorites are the pictures of the Hall of Records. The top banner rotates each time you visit a new page -- click around to see all the different shots!

Mystic River Building

http://mysticriverbuilding.com/

The Mystic River Building Company builds (and remodels!) luxury homes in the Mystic, Connecticut area.  These are not cookie-cutter homes -- the good folks at the MRBC design custom homes that meet all the varied needs of their clients.

For their website, they wanted to be able to give a sense of the breadth of their services without overwhelming visitors. We started with design -- Nort, Leslie, and Kathy decided that they wanted a design that was warm and cozy, as opposed to the cold and elegant feelings that some luxury home design sites have.

The finished site is simple, but packed with information. A visitor can learn all about MRBC's approach to designing and building houses, as well as explore a large gallery of finished projects. There is also plenty of space to highlight the company's professional affiliations and certifications -- more than you can shake a stick at!

P.S. Check out the drool-worthy built-in storage in the Gallery! Oh, I could use a couple hundred drawers like that.

Chiriqui Coastal

http://www.chiriquicoastal.com/

Do you want to buy a house or some land in Panama?  OF COURSE YOU DO!  Panama is totally awesome and full of rainforests and coral reefs and tons of monkeys and interesting birds.

When you get ready to start your new life in Central American, Chiriqui Coastal Real Estate is a great place to start. Allen and Max came to us wanting two things out of their website: they wanted it to be full of useful information about living in Panama, and they wanted a simple way to manage their property listings.

The site allows Allen and Max to easily add new listings and has a bunch of built-in functionality (like a really cool way to deal with multiple pictures for a listing, and forms so you can email the listing agent). The rest of the site has a ton of information about moving to Panama, living in Chiriqui (a beautiful province that shares a border with Costa Rica) and lots more interesting stuff.

I will tell you right now: if you buy the property in Volcan that has the 150-foot waterfall, you are officially required to invite Aaron and I to come visit.

Flat Belly Pilates

http://www.flatbellypilates.com/

Do you live in Washington, DC? Do you want to have super-crazy-buff core muscles? Call Ivory at Flat Belly Pilates! She'll come to your home and give you (and a friend, if you want) personalized Pilates classes. This is a brilliant plan -- you can learn Pilates in your pajamas, and take a shower afterwards without needing to wear flip-flops!

Ivory contacted us and wanted to have a new-and-improved website in honor of her business' one-year anniversary. She wanted the new site to be clean, informative, and inviting. Because Ivory regularly participates in charity events and other promotions, she also wanted to have a "Latest Updates" section that she could update on her own with current information.  When Ivory adds a piece of news, it is automatically added to her "Latest Updates" page and also is included in a rotating banner on the front page of her site.

Check her site out today, and be sure to let us know when you can do a full set of the Hundred!

Generation Green

http://www.generationgreenthebook.com/

"Generation Green is the ultimate eco teen guide for greening up everything in your life while having fun!" The site is the online presence for this great book written by mother and son team Linda and Tosh Sivertsen. Linda called us up one day and it became clear pretty quickly that this was a great match for everyone -- green book, green people, green website!

Add into that mix the amazing design skills of Elise over at Pixels and Pulp, and we ended up with a website that we're all really proud of.

Of course, it's got all the standard features like search-engine-optimization, and content that Linda and Tosh can update themselves. Tosh has a video blog filled with fun (and funny) green advice aimed at teens, and there's a whole section of Green Tips to help you green up your life. Check it out!

MarketSmart Research

http://www.marketsmartresearch.com/

If you need market research done for your industry, MarketSmart Research is a great resource. But Toni Wilson doesn't just hand out research data -- she can also teach you how to find it and do the analysis yourself.

Toni needed a site that would allow her to blog about industry issues, serve up past articles and whitepapers for download, and also let visitors learn about and register for her seminars. We had a great time working with Toni to get this site working for her business, and she tells us that adding new information to the site is "easy and intuitive".

Morrison's Feed Mill

http://www.morrisonsfeeds.com/

If you've got animals, odds are good that you feed them on a fairly regular basis. We get all of our feed from Morrison's Custom Feeds, a family-owned feed mill located in Barnet, Vermont. They also have a store in St Johnsbury that carries all of their own feeds plus useful farm-life stuff like chicken feeders, electric fencing, and those big giant buckets of molasses for horses. Morrison's Feeds are in high demand, because they offer 100% organic versions of most of their feeds. If you need alot of feed, they'll custom-mix just the right blend of grains and nutrients for your animals and deliver it directly to your farm.

Their website needed to keep visitors in-the-know about current specials and offers at the store, as well as have wholesale information for the mill. Each page in the store has details about what feeds and products are sold, and frequently asked questions about each type of animal. Everyone who works at Morrison's grew up either with the mill or on a farm, and they have tons of great information about keeping all sorts of animals.

Extra special webmeadow bonus: We needed a good picture of the mill itself for the "About the Mill" page, and were having a hard time getting our hands on one. Just days before the site launched, we took a lovely kayaking trip down the Connecticut River and floated right by (the back of) the mill. With the fall colors and everything, we had to take a picture, and it ended up on the site! People, that is what we call full-service website making.

Rock The Boat

http://www.rocktheboatmarketing.com/

When Pat decided to start Rock the Boat Marketing, a consulting firm that advises companies on digital strategy, she thought she'd better get a pretty awesome website. So she came to us! Once again, we got a smashing design from Elise over at Pixels & Pulp, so the site looks great.

It's got all the standard stuff like a blog and nice archives and an easy-to-use interface. It's also got some great expandable options, so that, for example, if Pat wants to start a podcast, everything is all ready for her! This project went really quickly and smoothly, and we were excited to make such a great site for Pat and Rock the Boat Marketing.

P.S. A bonus of working on site called "Rock the Boat" is that if you are like me and you mis-type things all the time, you are really working on a site called Rock the Boar Marketing. Rrawr!

Sundae Spa

http://www.sundaespa.com/

"What if," you think to yourself one day, "I could take a bath in ice cream?" Well my friend, you would be mighty cold, and those mint chips are sharp. A better alternative would be to hop on over to Sundae Spa, where you can have all your bathing-in-dessert experiences without the hassle of calories.

Kim knew she had a great product line, and she wanted a great website to feature her delicious concoctions. Not only did we build her a full e-commerce site (complete with coupons, gift certificates, and multiple shipping options), but we also built in a bunch of extra features like user-submitted reviews and a "Parenting News" blog to keep her customers happy and informed.

The product line at Sundae Spa is pretty complex, and one of our favorite challenges with this site was coming up with a way to display information about all of the various scents and options for each product (complete with pictures!) without crowding the page. I think we did pretty well!

Recycle Together

http://www.recycletogether.com/

What do you do when you have an employee who breezes through everything on his to-do list in half the time you expected? Well, you have him tackle the ever-growing list of "client profiles that we need to write". So sayeth Zeb:

Since Captain Planet was taken off the air, very few heroes have come to our aid in fighting global climate change.  Now there's a new super-group in town, and it's name is Recycle Together. This recently-formed brainchild of The Climate Group is comprised of some of the largest corporations today -- Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nestle, and Snapple -- and with their powers combined, they plan to fight global climate change one recyclable at a time.

This site aims to be the go-to place for any city or municipality that wants to jumpstart or revamp their recycling program, and it also happens to be a great resource for anyone to learn more about how recycling helps the environment. There are pages on how to get started, profiles of Model Cities that already have excellent recycling facilities and systems in place, and even information about venue recycling to deal with large-scale waste management.

Designed by Pixels & Pulp, we built RecycleTogether.com to give the folks at The Climate Group ways to easily add new Model Cities, expand the FAQ section, and build the site into the City Recycling authority it is obviously destined to be.

Old Shaw Farm

http://www.oldshawfarm.com/

This is a super-exciting website for us to announce because Old Shaw Farm is our most favoritest vegetable-growing farm. We have been part of their CSA for 4 years now, and it is a bit like Christmas every week when we go pick up our basket. This week we got a ton of greens and a big basket of strawberries (already gone!) and we got to chat with the always-wonderful Peter and Maryellen. They love their new site and the very first day it was up, before they had even told anyone about it, nine (9!) visitors who filled out their contact form. Seriously, I think that's a record.

The site has some basic stuff like a blog and a contact form, and also some snazzy stuff like a place to post CSA fliers (to answer the always-pressing question "Is it gazpacho time yet??") and a big section to share recipes. In fact, you can submit your own recipes! People are always telling Maryellen, "OMG, I made the BEST thing with the chard last week!" so now everyone can share their favorite recipes. Here is my super-special recipe for cherry tomatoes: 1) Put them in your mouth. 2) Eat them.

A big huge shout-out for this site goes to the wonderful Megan of Pixels & Pulp, who frankly kind of out-did herself on this one. We were all, "Hey Meg, can you throw together a simple little design for this site?" and she was all BAM! Emeril-style! And we were like, "Wo, orange, really?" and she was all, "DUDE it matches the carrots" and then we were all "Whoa. You're so right." And those pictures in the header? Peter and Maryellen can update those puppies themselves, so you are sure to see all kinds of great pictures of Waverly and Henry eating veg and hanging out around the farm.

Rave Review:

"With great professionalism, webmeadow took all of my concerns into consideration and created a website that I could not be more pleased with. I think that they did a fabulous job and even let me name one of their baby ducks, Dizzy, after DC legend Dizzy Gillespie. Best of all -- I can easily edit the site without HTML knowledge. I am pleased to be their client and have confidence that they will be able to help you meet your website development needs as well."
